*Advocating against leprosy discrimination*

Cambridge Hub hosting Catherine Benbow (Director) and Rosalyn Palmer (Head of Marketing and Communications), The Leprosy Mission

On: Wednesday 16th November

At: 7.30pm

In: The Latimer Room, Clare College

Leprosy has the power to destroy lives long after the cure has been given.

Leprosy is an easily treatable bacterial infection, but left untreated it can cause severe disability. Even in the 21st century, people experience severe discrimination and exclusion because of leprosy or by association with it. Those who contract the disease may be cast out and rejected, even after they have been cured.  People branded with the derogatory and abusive term of ‘leper’ are still robbed of their dignity, homes, families, livelihoods, health and hope. In many countries – including the UK – there is still anti-leprosy legislation that robs them of their rights.

The Leprosy Mission is challenging this injustice. We would strongly encourage anyone interested in international development, global health, or in learning more about organisations working to challenge injustice to come to this talk!

*About the speakers*

Catherine Benbow, a director of the Leprosy Mission, is an expert on stigma, with extensive experience from working around the world, and on the causes and effects of leprosy.

Rosalyn Palmer is Head of Marketing and Communications, and works on the development of marketing strategy initiatives to grow donor support and profile-raising across multiple media.

Between them they have a huge range of knowledge and experience to share, so come for an engaging talk and with all of your questions!
