The SUMMIT magazine is your first stop if you want to change the world for the better! Each issue takes a different social problem or cause of inequality as its central theme. We aim to present a range of articles, both from students and recent graduates, and from experts in the field – to give you a balanced mix of informed opinions, inspired ideas, and practical advice. Our goal is to explore some of the more intriguing stories and facts, and come up with some ideas and suggestions for positive change.
The SUMMIT is published in October, February and June. Each issue we publish a number of articles and opinion pieces submitted by students – we want to hear about the issues that affect you, and your ideas for fighting inequality.

The SUMMIT is always on the lookout for talented new writers – so if you’re an aspiring journalist and you want to help draw attention to social issues and inequality (and experience the warm rosy glow of seeing your work in print) then this is your chance to get involved!
We set off with the best of intentions: to see the world, meet interesting people, and increasingly to give something back. But are tourists volunteering abroad helpful or harmful, and can a new generation of clued-up socially conscious global citizens really put the world's problems to right?
Articles should explore issues around volunteering or charity work overseas, and the impacts of travellers on the countries they visit. Your writing may be inspired by research or by first-hand experience. We aim to provide a balanced view, to help our readers weigh up the facts and arrive at their own informed opinions. As a guideline, articles could approach the theme in any of the following ways:
DISCOVER IT: report the big issues – through research, interviews or first-hand accounts. Articles should be balanced and well researched; all facts and quotations should be referenced. You are free to give your own conclusions, but should clearly argue your case. Guideline: 1200 words.
DEBATE IT: shorter pieces setting out your position on an issue. You could use this to argue for new ideas or policies, or to set out your opinion on a key issue and explain why you think the way you do. Guideline: 500 words.
DO IT: show our readers how they can get involved by profiling the people who’ve done it already. You could describe a social enterprise, charity work or volunteering that you have been involved with, or you could interview your heroes. Guideline: 750 words, or longer by agreement.
Use the form below to register your interest, and submit your article idea/synopsis for consideration.
Submission type: Word files (.doc, .docx, or compatible text format) to be emailed to thesummit@studenthubs.org
Deadlines: Finished articles to be submitted by Monday 30th April 2012.
Word counts: You should aim for the word counts given; although we will allow a little either way. Get in touch with thesummit@studenthubs.org if you're unsure.
Photographs: We encourage you to submit photographs, if you feel they enhance the content of the article, and help explain the story. Any photographs or other images must be high quality jpegs, suitable for printing at 300 dpi, without the need for rescaling.
Advertising/Sponsorship: The Summit is distributed across Student Hubs 20,000 strong highly targeted network. If you're interested in reaching this audience by placing an advert or sponsoring an edition, please take a look at our price list here, and get in touch via thesummit@studenthubs.org.
Any Other Ideas?
