Amidst but despite cuts to funding, there continue to be opportunities for graduates in ethical careers and the not-for-profit sector.
Charities and not-for-profit organisations constitute around 2% of the UK workforce. Whilst at immediate sight a small number, this translates in to hundreds of thousands of jobs in the area.
Experience is invaluable, but ability and enthusiasm are essential. The sector throws up unorthodox challenges, and employees can expect to need to be flexible and muck in.
Despite this, satisfaction levels amongst not-for-profit employees runs high and there is much to be said for a career that puts principle first: some research has even demonstrated that employees in this sector live longer and live happier.
